“The Germany-wide protests for democracy and against right-wing extremism in 2024/2025 gained a lot of public attention. But hardly anyone had scientific data on who took to the streets, what motivated them, and how they experienced the threat of right-wing extremism. We at the Democracy, Society & Innovation Department of the FES wanted to find out and commissioned the Institute for Protest and Movement Research (ipb) with a research project, co-led by Lisa Bogerts. The data collection was conducted just as professionally as the presentation of the results in the form of a study (with many graphics) and an expert discussion with representatives from politics, research, and civil society. Many newspapers and radio stations reported on the study, enabling the FES to make a sound contribution to the public debate.”
